Rural Farm Families Therapy

Practical & Convenient Help for Everyday Realities

Rural and farming families often face unique stressors that can affect emotional well-being, family relationships, and overall quality of life. Financial uncertainty, long work hours, and feelings of isolation can create significant strain on mental health. Accessing mental health support in agricultural communities may feel difficult due to distance, limited local resources, or concerns about privacy in small towns. Partners, children, and extended family members are often also connected to the demands of agricultural life, meaning that stress experienced by one person can spill over and affect the entire family system.

I grew up in rural Arkansas in an extended cattle farming family. Although I technically lived a few miles up the road from the farm, I learned to bail hay before I learned to drive a car, and I learned early in life about the value of hard work and determination so often found in rural communities.

Thanks to this background, I approach therapy with respect for the realities of rural life, including the value placed on hard work, family responsibility, and community support. I understand that many individuals in agricultural settings are not looking for abstract conversations, but for practical tools that help them with stress management for farmers, improve communication, and navigate difficult work/relationship dynamics. In my rural family therapy practice, I offer a structured and solution-focused space to address concerns such as burnout, anxiety, depression, family conflict, financial stress, parenting challenges, and relationship strain. I work together with clients to gain understanding of their unique situation and build skills to help them adapt to ongoing uncertainty without sacrificing their values and way of life.
